Duke Racing Wheels Unveils Sierra and Sierra ra Gravel Wheelsets for Versatile, Aerodynamic Performance
French high‑performance rimmaker Duke Racing Wheels has answered that call with two new gravel wheelsets – the Sierra and Sierra Æra – that promise a blend of lightness, control, and aerodynamic edge.
Both lines are built on Duke’s proprietary SLR5 manufacturing process, which layers Toray T1100 carbon fibre to achieve an exceptionally stiff yet lightweight structure. The rims incorporate SpokeCore technology, moulding the spoke holes into a continuous matrix that eliminates weak points. A VFP (Varnish‑Free Process) finish removes the need for a clearcoat, reducing weight and simplifying maintenance.
The Sierra wheelset comes in three rim profiles. The 27 mm rim weighs 280 g, the 36 mm rim 335 g, and the 42 mm rim 375 g. Each rim has 24 spokes and an internal width of 29 mm (27 mm rim), 28 mm (36 mm rim), or 28 mm (42 mm rim). Duke recommends the 27 mm rim for adventure gravel, hard‑pack terrain, and climbs; the 36 mm rim for fast adventure gravel; and the 42 mm rim for fast gravel and rolling courses. Matching the same profile on front and rear wheels (27/27, 36/36, 42/42) is the suggested combination for each use case. Prices start at €1,593 for the 27 mm wheelset and rise to €1,725 for the 42 mm wheelset.
Sierra Æra adds a signature aerodynamic relief that, according to Duke, can reduce drag by up to 10 % compared with a smooth rim. The wheelset is offered in wide versions W42, W48, and W56. The W42 rim weighs 420 g, the W48 rim 460 g, and the W56 rim 410 g. All have 24 spokes and an internal width of 43 mm. The W42 and W48 rims are intended for the front wheel, where the external width aligns with the sidewalls of wide tyres to optimise the tyre‑rim transition. The 48 mm and 56 mm rims are recommended for the rear wheel, where the aerodynamic benefit is less critical and cross‑wind sensitivity is lower. Prices start at €1,725 for the 48 mm wheelset and rise to €1,795 for the 56 mm wheelset.
Both lines can be ordered as fully custom builds. Customers choose front and rear rim profiles, spoke count, pattern, and hub type. Duke’s workshops hand‑build each wheel to control spoke tension and ensure long‑term reliability, and custom decals are available for visual personalisation.
Gravel cycling has evolved into a discipline that demands wheels capable of handling a wide range of conditions – from long, light‑bag routes to high‑speed races. The Sierra and Sierra Æra wheelsets are positioned to meet these needs. Sierra prioritises lightness, comfort, and control for long distances and varied terrain, while Sierra Æra adds an aerodynamic edge for riders who compete in fast tracks, long races, or high‑average‑speed rides.
In the broader market, the new wheelsets compete with other high‑end gravel options that balance weight, stiffness, and aerodynamics. The price points – starting around €1,600 for the Sierra line and €1,700 for the Sierra Æra line – place them in the premium segment. The use of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques, such as the SLR5 process and CFD‑derived relief, underscores Duke’s focus on performance.
Today, the Sierra and Sierra Æra wheelsets are available for purchase through Duke’s official website and select retailers. No further product launches or regulatory actions have been announced. Customers interested in custom builds can contact Duke directly for specifications and pricing.
The launch of the Sierra and Sierra Æra ranges represents Duke Racing Wheels’ continued investment in high‑performance gravel technology, offering riders a choice between lightweight, versatile wheels and aerodynamic, speed‑oriented options.
